Sun.Star
Sun.Star is a network of community newspapers all over the Philippines. It prints daily in Cebu, where the mother publication is based, as well as in Bacolod, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Pampanga. The content is in English and published in tabloid size.
Despite having almost the same content, Sun.Star president Julius Neri said the print and online cater to different audiences. “The challenge is how to get millennials to read print and how to get the traditional people to read the online,” he said.
Sun.Star Cebu is published by SunStar Publishing, Incorporated. The different networks in various provinces are owned and managed by different people but Neri is the common denominator as he sits on every board as a member.
Sun.Star also publishes SuperBalita in Bisaya, the local language, in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao. Balita means “news” in Bisaya and the national language Filipino.
Sun.Star Publishing, Incorporated is owned by Armson Corporation, a holding company owned by the elite Garcia clan in Cebu with 30 percent shares. Meanwhile, 27 percent shares are owned by White Gold, Inc., a company of the Gaisano clan, who also owns Gaisano Malls.
