TV5 (formerly known as ABC 5) is a free-to-air commercial TV station
owned and operated by TV5 Network Incorporated (formerly Associated Broadcasting Corporation and later ABC Development Corporation), a subsidiary of MediaQuest Holdings, Inc. whose parent is the company that owns the pension funds of PLDT Incorporated’s (formerly Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company) employees.
Businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, more popularly known in business circles as MVP, sits as chair of both PLDT, where he is also its president and chief executive officer, and MediaQuest Holdings Incorporated.
Nielsen’s National Urban TV Audience Measurement (link to methodology) pegs the station’s audience share at 7.60 percent from January to August 2016, making it the country’s third largest TV station based on audience share.
TV5, like frontrunners ABS-CBN 2 and GMA7, shows diverse programs from drama series, sitcoms, musical variety shows, infotainment, entertainment, and news and current affairs. It also shows the Filipinos’ favorite sports to watch: live games of the Philippine Basketball Association, a professional basketball league.
