Nine Media Corporation was incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission on January 5, 2010. It owns CNN Philippines which is being shown on Radio Philippines Network’s (RPN) channel 9. It also has a 34-percent stake in RPN which it acquired from the Tieng brothers -- Wilson, William, and Willy -- in August 2014.
Nine Media Corporation is 100-percent owned by JRLT-JHI Corporation, a financial holding company. It is part of Antonio L. Cabangon-Chua’s ALC Group of Companies, a conglomerate engaged in various business activities, such as insurance protection, media, pre-need assurance, automotive, banking and finance, security, education, hotels, and real estate.
Cabangon-Chua was the chairman of the board of Nine Media Corporation until his death on March 11, 2016. His successor still has to be announced according to Nine Media Corporation.
The ALC Group’s media arm consists of Nine Media Corporation’s CNN Philippines, radio stations 97.9 Home Radio and DWIZ 882, the business broadsheet BusinessWorld, the magazine Philippine Graphic, the tabloid Pilipino Mirror, and the printing press Brown Madonna Press Incorporated.
