sunstar.com.ph
Sunstar.com.ph is one of the first community papers to go online in 1996. Initially, it was dedicated to the mother publication in Cebu but in 2000, it integrated other cities where the paper is being published.
Now, Sun.Star also has online publications in Manila, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Pangasinan and Zamboanga, despite having no print issues in these areas.
Sun.Star president Julius Neri said the online is meant to cater more to the millennials. He also said the company is focusing more on integration of the different platforms because of the fast-paced nature of news.
“Babasahin mo yung newspaper, ang makita mo, in a news, history na kasi nakita mo na sa Facebook kahapon (When you read the newspaper, what you’ll be reading is history since you already saw it on Facebook the day before),” Neri said.
Sunstar.com.ph is looking into strengthening its social media presence to give the audience “the whole story.”
“A news now breaks sa Facebook. So galing Facebook, papuntang website Sun.Star papuntang newspaper Sun.Star (A news now breaks on Facebook. From Facebook to the Sun.Star website to the newspaper). That would tell you the whole story of the event,” he added.
The online site of Sun.Star claims their coverage of the annual Sinulog Festival in Cebu “bring peaks in visits and page views” to its website.
SunStar Publishing, Incorporated, based in Cebu manages both the print and online news site. It is owned by Armson Corporation, a holding company owned by the elite Garcia clan in Cebu with 30 percent shares. Meanwhile, 27 percent shares are owned by White Gold, Inc., a company of the Gaisano clan, who also owns Gaisano Malls.
